Taken from an original photo from Agafay resort in 2023, this scene depicts a turquoise pool, weathered wooden deck, and rust-red lounge chairs look out over glowing orange dunes in this one-of-a-kind mixed media piece. This is the Sahara Desert in Morocco as you’ve never seen it before! My art process works through a geometric design and layering/blending process in Photoshop. I then transformed the image into an illustration, building the scene from overlapping, angular shapes of saturated color.
The illustration is printed on high quality archival watercolor paper, then layered by hand with Copic Sketch markers and black scribble linework. A bright blue sky and cool pool water play against the fiery oranges and reds of the desert, with touches of yellow, green, and purple tucked throughout. I deliberately color outside the lines. This is a one-of-one custom piece.
